Si-Fu Chris

Si-Fu Chris’ motivation to teach comes from the desire to see students develop a genuine confidence and improve their quality of life

Chris Saunders

He had the honour of training with some of the best martial artists in the world

Si-Fu Chris started his Kung Fu journey in 1994 aged 18, learning Nam Pai Chaun (and some Wing Chun) from his friend Roy Richardson. These training sessions quickly escalated to 4 hours a day, 5 to 6 days a week as Chris grew to love martial arts and saw himself improving.

Chris loved the fact that the Wing Chun System was a complete system that covered all five fighting ranges (kicking, punching, knees and elbows, grappling and groundwork), so he started training Wing Chun Kung Fu with the National Wing Chun Association and within a few weeks was training 20 to 30 hours a week at morning and evening classes as well as private lessons. Due to the number of hours training and showing fast improvement, Si-Fu Chris was asked to open a class and start teaching in his home town of Worthing. He already had experience in teaching and coaching from his time as a tennis coach, working with beginners up to some of the top players in the UK.

In February 1999 the association (NWCA) merged with the European Wing Tsun Organisation, the largest professional martial arts organisation in the world with over 265,000 members. Si-Fu Chris became a Senior Instructor in England and along with a small group of instructors, was incredibly fortunate to learn under the instruction of Grandmaster Kernspecht and some of the most experienced Wing Chun Instructors in the world. GM Kernspecht is the only private student of Grandmaster Leung Ting, the last private student of GM IpMan. Si-Fu Chris now regularly travels to Germany with his training partner to see Sifu Martin Hofmann who has over 35 years experience in Wing Chun to be pushed and further improve their Wing Chun.

Si-Fu Chris has trained with and tested the Wing Chun system with some of the best martial artists in the world and even invites some of them to gradings to test our advanced students.
With 30 years of teaching and coaching experience, Si-Fu Chris has developed an Instructor training programme that enables the team to have a strong knowledge of Wing Chun along with tried and tested methods of teaching and learning, coaching, performance and behaviour management amongst other things.

As an Instructor Si-Fu Chris’ motivation to teach comes from the desire to see the students who come into Teach Me Kung Fu Schools, (whether they’re 4 or 104), develop a genuine confidence and improve their quality of life because their posture, mobility and health have improved. He also loves to see qualities such as self discipline/control, integrity, perseverance amongst others being developed and helping students to develop the ability to protect themselves and others with one of the most effective self defence systems in the world.

Si-Fu Chris along with his wife Amanda and a dedicated and talented team of instructors and junior apprentices, strive to run a student centred Kung Fu School, with strong values and high standards.
