Reflecting on 2025

With 2026 well underway, it’s tempting to rush straight into what’s next, be it big new plans, dreams for the future, and everything else! But before turning the page, it feels important to take a look back. 2025 was one hell of a year including 4 gradings/graduations, our easter egg hunt, celebrating 20 years of kids classes, the summer fun day, our fun themed weeks, crazy neon nunchuck night, several adult socials for our older students. We opened 2 new classes, smashed first aid training for our amazing team, ran multiple community demos, hosted a charity quiz, did more training for the team, even took a trip to Nottingham (with a stop at Alton Towers), and finally George the Dragon took part in a talent show!

On top of this we welcomed a total of 63 new students into our Kung Fu family, and achieved the lowest attrition rate in the country, all whilst connecting with our community and opening a class at Ferring C of E Primary to help empower and grow confidence there. With all the successes, it’s equally as important to reflect on those we have said goodbye to over the past year. As sad as it is to see students go, we are honoured to be a part of their journey and understand there are a multitude of reasons why people pause their training. We wish you all the best.

What have we learned?

Consistency is king – Out of all our students, the ones that made the most progress and felt the most confident in their journey were the ones that turned up every week! It didn’t matter if they were tired and had a long day, it didn’t matter if it was rainy and horrible outside, they still turned up and tried their hardest. That resilience they built from showing up and training anyway is what made them stand out in lessons and in gradings.

Build on relationships – This year we have really tried to put the focus on you. The parents and guardians, grandparents, friends, whoever you are! We want to make sure that you are having the experience you deserve too, hence why we brought in the coffee machine and the 20 different coffees and the 50 different teas. Once you’re in the hall it’s your turn to take a breather and have a chat if you want to.

Invest in those around you – Last but most certainly not least, we are investing a lot into our wonderful team. The instructors and S.T.O.R.M team that you see every session are the future of the school. We are doing everything we can going forward to make sure they are ready and have the opportunities to be the best instructors possible! One day you could very well be coming along to lessons run by them!

Gratitude for the Journey

This year wouldn’t have been what it was without the people and opportunities that shaped it. Gratitude goes to those who offered trust, feedback, patience, and belief sometimes before results were visible. Even quick conversations and small acts of support have a lasting impact, so thank you.

There’s also gratitude for the challenges themselves. They are what push us to constantly better ourselves, overall it’s a good thing we don’t believe in being mediocre!

Looking Ahead to 2026

As the focus shifts toward 2026, the goal isn’t to reinvent the wheel. Our work over so many years has headed us in the right direction and that hasn’t changed: core values, a commitment to quality, and the belief that meaningful work takes time. Those foundations all remain, what we will be doing is refocusing our mission…

Our Mission:

“Empowering students to build focus, self discipline, and character, through the art of Kung Fu, creating confident individuals and a stronger community.”

It’s simple, but it defines everything we stand for. Kung Fu is the package that helps us deliver all the attributes behind it, and everyone’s journey is personal to them.

Don’t worry, we still have all our events coming this year (our March grading invites are out already!!).

What can you do

Take a moment to reflect on your past year. What did you learn? What do you want to do more of? What are you tolerating and would like to change?

Finally, a massive thank you for all your continued support. We genuinely love doing what we do and seeing every student progress physically and emotionally is the real reason we put our everything into it!
